Nearby you notice a small pile of leaves and debris that looks more fresh than the others. As you move things aside, hoping to find something underneath, a bloodied hand falls limp out from under a piece of metal sheeting. Someone is trapped under there. You hurriedly remove the remaining debris, exposing what looks like a soldier. They are wearing a black combat uniform, a light vest and thick boots. On their shoulders and chest are patches that say JSEP. You remove the balaclava covering their face to check if they are breathing.

They’re dead.

You grab their gun and some of the ammunition from the magazines in their vest. As you check the body you notice that they don’t appear to have been bitten, but instead shot. Two holes in the back plate. In one pocket you find a small note that reads:

0045 the sat-link failed again. This feels intentional.
0230 heading inland. Gotta time the storm. Lead is acting sketch
0415 the company man is lying. Don’t know how, but he is. And Lead is in on it.
0600 im heading back to the coast. This is a set up. Even if we manage to cripple ADAM, the company won’t let us survive.
